Description

Dynastie Omeyyade - Yazid II, AH 101-105. 1/3 Dinar AH 103.
Between the years 91 and 103 of the Hijra the Islamic dinar was divided into halves (nisf) and thirds (thulth) to copy the fractions of the Byzantine solidi - semissis and tremissis. These fractional denominations were issued to facilitate trade in areas where silver coinage was either rare or non-existent. The nisf and thulth are usually found in the Maghrib. When silver Dirhams appeared in Spain and Ifriqiya their the reason for striking fractional gold ceased to exist and its issuance was discontinued.
