A very rare donative gold Dinar of the Abbasid period.
The Abbasid Caliphate. abu’l-Fadl Ja’far al-Muqtadir billah, AH 295-320 (908-932 CE) with heir abu’l-‘Abbas. AV heavy donative Dinar AH 303, Madinat al-Salam (Baghdad). Standard Abbasid third period Dinar legends on both obverse and reverse. 5,13g. Album - (cf. 245 for the type); Bernardi - (cf. 242Jh for the type).

This unusual feature shows it to have been prepared for presentation to high officials in the Abbasid court and administration. These special coins were considered to be prestigious marks of honour for their recipients.
