A very rare donative gold Dinar of the Abbasid period.
The Abbasid Caliphate. abu’l-Fadl Ja’far al-Muqtadir billah, AH 295-320 (908-932 CE) with heir abu’l-‘Abbas. AV heavy donative Dinar AH 303, Madinat al-Salam (Baghdad). Grading/Status: Nice extremely fine.

Notes
This superb heavy weight donative gold Dinar was struck on specially prepared broad flans with generous margins on both obverse and reverse. This unusual feature shows it to have been prepared for presentation to high officials in the Abbasid court and administration. These special coins were considered to be prestigious marks of honour for their recipients.
