COMORES - A UNIQUE GROUP OF COINS OF THE COMORES. Saïd Ali, Sultan, 1885-1909. 5 Francs AH 1308 (1890), Paris. Inscription sur quatre lignes comprenant au centre les drapeaux français et comorien croisés autour d’un croissant et de trois étoiles, le tout entouré d’une couronne de palme et de laurier. Différents corne d'abondance et faisceau au-dessous / Inscription circulaire avec, en son centre, une panoplie de diverses armes et la date (Hégire). Tranche en relief « 24 étoiles ». 25,00g. Lecompte 10.

Notes
Between 1886 and 1912, the islands of Anjouan, Grande-Comore and Mohéli became French protectorates. In 1889, Sultan Saïd Ali, who was then governor of the Comoros, entrusted the striking of his coins to the Paris Mint. These remained in circulation until 1912, when the Comoros became a French colony.
