Les Mogols étaient originaires d’Asie Centrale, mais leur dynastie s’établit durablement en Inde dès l’époque de leur premier souverain, Zahir al-din Babur. En souvenir de ces origines, l’empereur Shah Jahan tenta de reconquérir les territoires perdus d’Asie Centrale. La conquête fut de courte durée et les Mogols ne revinrent jamais au nord de l’Afghanistan.
The Mughals originated in Central Asia, but their first ruler, Zahir al-din Babur, conquered India which became the new home of the dynasty. But Shah Jahan, wishing to honour family traditions, attempted to retake the dynasty’s former lands in central Asia. In the event the Mughals held the territory only briefly and never returned to northern Afghanistan.
