Nasr II fut l’un des plus importants gouverneurs samanides de Transoxiane. Il se considérait comme virtuellement indépendant des califes abbassides et s’en arrogeait maintes prérogatives, comme l’émission de monnaies de donation. Cette monnaie imite celles d’al-Muqtadir, mais ne mentionne pas le nom de son héritier. En revanche, Nasr n’a pas oublié de faire inscrire son propre nom.
Nasr II was one of the more important Samanid governors of Transoxiana. He clearly regarded himself as virtually independent of the Abbasid caliphate and took on many of the trappings of their sovereignty. Among these was the issuance of a donative coinage imitating that of his ostensible overlord, al-Muqtadir, but omitting the name of the caliph’s heir. Nasr inscribed his own name in a distinctive, graceful Naskhi script, rather than the conventional Kufic.
