Dynastie Abbasside - al-Ma’mun, AH 194-218. Fals de cuivre AH 219, al-Quds (Jérusalem). Inscription sur trois lignes dans un cercle hachuré / Inscription sur quatre lignes dans un cercle plein. 2,52g. Album 291.
Rare. Très beau.
Sous les Omeyyades, Jérusalem était connue sous son nom romain Iliya Filastin (Aelia Capitolina). Mais depuis le temps d’alMa’mun, la cité portait le nom d’»al-Quds» qui signifie «sainteté» ou «sacralité», faisant probablement référence au Dôme du Rocher. Ce fals est la seule monnaie sur laquelle al-Quds apparaît en tant que nom d’atelier.
Under the Umayyads Jerusalem was known by its Roman name Iliya Filastin, but from the time of al-Ma’mun it was given the Islamic religious name al-Quds (meaning «holiness» or «sanctity»). This almost certainly refers to the shrine of the Dome of the Rock. This is the only coin on which al-Quds appears as a mint name.
