THE UMAYYAD DYNASTY, AH 41-132 (661-750). AN EXTRAORDINARY COLLECTION OF UMAYYAD COINAGE. EXPANSION OF ISLAM INTO SPAIN. Sulayman, AH 96-99 (715-717). Dinar globulaire bilingue AH 98 (716-17), al-Andalus (Andalousie). Légende circulaire latine autour d'une étoile à huit pointes : FERITOS SOL IN SPAN AN XCV(sic) / Inscription arabe sur deux lignes, entourée d'une légende circulaire mentionnant le lieu et la date. 4,09g. A 124M ; Bernardi 35Aa.
Une monnaie exceptionnelle et splendide.
Anmerkungen
An exceptional and rare example of the Islamisation of Andalusian gold coinage. The reverse bears the second half of the Kalima, the name of the mint and the date. The Latin legend on the obverse also includes the date, although a lack of space or lack of understanding on the part of the engraver meant that this was often incomplete (e.g. "XCV" rather than "XCVIII").
